Thanks..

I love an old photo and it has been nice to take the time to look back on some of my highlights of the last 30 years (some of the reading this will start to panic – I have lots of pictures!!).  When I was this age it was all about the cake.  (Unfortunately, I couldn’t find one of my Birthday so this was my little sisters.)

I’d like to thank my family for their support with Projecthirty, I didn’t have a cake with blue smarties this year but your donations mean a lot to me and to the kids I am trying to help.

It is amazing to look back on some of these pictures and still be friends with a lot of of the people in them.  To be honest I hadn’t really appreciated the importance of friends until this year.  The support I have had for Projecthirty has been genuinely phenomenal!   From every ‘like’ to ‘share’ to every text offering help, to your own friends and family donating and getting involved..incredible!

Furthermore a big thanks to colleagues @ The Compass, family friends, other relatives, Dawn and Dave, ‘The Dirty Pint’ and the rest of you who took the time to donate – even though we only met briefly or not even at all.  It is your donations that keep me going 🙂

Finally…

…..I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for JP’s inspiration and guidance in helping me see how even little old me can make a difference (see http://www.onefeedstwo.org for all his adventures!!).

He loves a good quote and Ms Roosevelt is one of my favourites so here goes..

“If anyone were to ask me what I want out of life I would say- the opportunity for doing something useful, for in no other way, I am convinced, can true happiness be attained.”
― Eleanor Roosevelt

Thanks.

(well, I couldn’t resist a funny photo to finish!!)

News from Kwa Njenga

20130911-213520.jpg

It was great to receive an email today from the Head Teacher at Kwa Njenga Primary. Her name is Cyprine and she is one if the most amazing people I have ever met. I’m delighted to now be in regular contact with her to receive updates on the school. It reminded me again of the troubles that they face and even sitting here right now with everything i need; food, clothes, water etc, genuinely makes giving up one Birthday nothing in comparison. I decided to also look back through my photos. For those of you who didn’t follow my trip this is Kwa Njenga Slum..

And these are a couple if the kids making their way to school.

When I first met Cyprine she spoke of the problems the school face and indeed the children. Yet, she was very much like every other teacher I know; passionate, caring and dedicated. I remember taking this photograph on the way in to see her and being so impressed at her high standards and expectations of these children.

During lunch break I went for a look at one if the Early Years classrooms – this one for me stood out as the teacher had worked really hard to put things up on the walls and make it look as much like a classroom as possible.

My classroom..

This comparison for me is really hard.

So today I wrote out a list of what i would have liked for my Birthday..

Mulberry
Cath Kidston
Joules
Herve Leger
Dubarry
Blah blah blah blah..

Instead I have written a letter/email to them all looking for an item that I can auction to raise money.

This is where I’d appreciate your help..

1. If you know someone who might donate something then if you could give then a shout for me that’d be fab.

2. Tweet those companies on my Birthday list..the more annoying tweets and reminders they get about helping the better!

3. Keep sharing the story.

3 days to go..

Much love as always x

One Week to Thirty

20130908-094838.jpg

I am officially 29 years, 11 months and 24 days old, which means only one thing…one week till thirty!!

It has been really nice over the last few weeks hearing about what everyone has been doing for their 30th birthday – trip aways, amazing dinner dates, beautiful gifts and some awesome 30th parties too…

20130908-095719.jpg

It’s at this point that I find what I am trying to do particularly challenging. Yet when I look at Projecthirty I love it. I feel it has genuinely taken me 30 years to get to this point where I am happy with who I am and what I am about…and it’s been an incredible 30 years. Some real highs, along with some real lows. All of which have lead me to this point in time. The people, the places, the parties, the presents – all of it. I would never have given up the party at 16, or the gifts at 21 – and although I am still me (loud, over excitable and a little bit bonkers) it’s a great feeling knowing that this is only the beginning of the journey….

…who knows what lies around the corner (or over the water as I don’t have a picture of a corner!).

20130908-101333.jpg

Next weekend I am 30.

If you would have bought me a gift – please don’t, donate on my fundraising page instead!

If you would have wished me ‘Happy Birthday’ then please share my story instead (that’s all you guys on FB and Twitter!)

If you would have called for a catch up then still do – I love a good bleather!

xx

Wedding Favours

20130826-213352.jpg

I love weddings..the dress, the vows, the food, the cake, the wine and of course the dancing!!

I hadn’t really thought that Projecthirty would ever feature at a wedding – however I was wrong! After launching the website one if my oldest family friends (Dawn Shore) contacted me with the genius idea of making a donation to Projecthirty as her wedding favours – clever!

This was a no brainer for me and actually really easy to do! So she made a donation on my Virgin Money Fundraising page and I sent her the logo and a short message for her guests. Although I’d have loved to make the favour cards for her the best part was that the lady who was doing all the stationary would make them so that they would match the theme – brilliant!!

So, not only will she have a beautiful wedding day, a gorgeous groom and an awesome party, she’ll also have helped hundreds, maybe eventually thousands of children have a better education.

On that note, massive thanks to the future Mr&Mrs Garden for both the donation and the inspiration. I hope one day you will be able to come to Kenya and see the impact for yourselves.

If you fancy having Projecthirty favours on your special day then just give me a shout.

Much love x

(since love is in the air after all!)

PS This is a photo of my wedding-just wanted to reminisce!!

Yeah yeah, I love a party – even in a wedding dress!!
